"New Life"
I finished this painting as Hurricane Harvey was hitting Houston, not knowing if our house would flood again (we had just flooded 17 months before, during the tax day floods). I was in my studio painting and worshipping and I heard the Lord say “even if you flood I will bring new life after the waters recede.” Three days later our house flooded again and not only was our house destroyed, we lost every bit of furniture we owned this time. We decided to move rather than to rebuild again. We were one of the fortunate ones that had flood insurance and the Lord provided in so many miraculous ways during and after the flood. When I would hear people say they stood at their property line and prayed and the water didn’t come any further, I would get frustrated and question God but looking back I am grateful He didn’t answer our prayers to hold back the water. Instead, we are now in a brand new beautiful home that we never thought we could afford, with a house full of new furniture, in a much better area of town but more important we got to see just how faithful God was during that journey. It was a lesson on trusting the Lord, that even when the circumstances look their worst, He is always at work on our behalf. We can truly say we are blessed!
“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11
“Now to him who is able to (carry out His purpose and) do super abundantly more than all that we dare ask or think (infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes or dreams) according to His power that is at work within us” Ephesians 3:20
