This was the first painting in a series called "King of Kings". I've never done a series before because I get bored quickly but I felt it was time. The very first feedback I got when painting years ago was "don't paint something as you see it in the natural...make it your own". Apparently that advice stuck with me, because I can rarely paint something directly from a reference photo without adding unexpected color, patterns or a touch of whimsy somehow.
